ok so About Me sections are actually proper hard to write. you know when someone says “tell me about yourself” and now you’re having an identity crisis while trying to conjure up 3 fun facts about you? many such cases. anyway, without further ado…

hi hello and welcome to my blog, Wild Dogs Run Free! :3 my name is Ensi (they/she). i’m a 22 year old from London who just graduated from uni (hooray!!), so i finally have time to write about the topics i care about, without the deadlines and marking rubrics and impending sense of doom…

so this actually isn’t my first time blogging; when i was a kid i had a small WordPress website talking about Animal Jam, my favourite childhood game that 100% changed the scope of my identity and life course (dead serious). my username is Fernfaun if you still play! i absolutely adore writing in all forms, and i missed blogging too – although very few of my website-making skills from back then have been transferable with this project. technology has come a long way since 2012, who woulda thunk!?

i imagine the things i write about here will be a little bit of everything: sometimes a ‘proper’ researched essay, othertimes my thoughts on a topic or piece of media, betweentimes (yes that’s a word!) an update on a hobby i’m pursuing. some things that are bound to come up, though, are my special interests: wildlife ecology, cynology (the study of dogs + other canids) and social activism – and especially the many links between these subjects.

For now, some topics I definitely wanna discuss are:

  • Therianism: how animals, nature, and your perceptions of them be a core aspect to your identity. In a similar vein…
  • Getting into cosplay and (at some point) creating my own ears, paws + tail! my ma’s sewing machine ain’t gonna know what hit her >:D
  • Domestic dogs – my faves! – and their position in human societies
  • how on Earth i managed to get a First Class in my STEM degree with unmedicated ADHD and probably autism??? (answer: BARELY)
  • anything people would like to hear (read?) me discuss if anyone has requests or suggestions!

who is this blog for?

to be honest, this project is a tad bit self-indulgent (but what passion project isn’t?). i’ve always been a creative, but i’ve spent a lot of my life keeping my ideas in my daydreams. i’m certainly a perfectionist (by God did this rear its ugly head in uni LOL); for me, this sometimes manifests itself as “this idea can’t flop if i just never execute it! hehehe foolproof plan!”

recently, though, it’s hit home that i just cannot continue in this way. no one can. life is what you make of it and whatnot, but i truly believe that there’s some type of ‘call’ that we all possess within ourselves. it’s not always obvious, marketable, or easy to comprehend – for others or ourselves – nor do the great powers-that-be always allow for us to pursue it. but it beats on still, like a thrumming bassline that underpins the weird, arrhythmic dance of life. #poetry #inspirationalquotes

i anticipate that i will change a bit as time passes, and so too will this About Me and the blog as a whole. i’m excited to share my thoughts with the wild wild web – and with you, wonderful reader! :3
